Introducing: Fraoch Tones!
We had some incredible entries to our artist competition this year, but we're delighted to announce our winner: Fraoch Tones (aka, Carolyn!) Carolyn lives in Edinburgh, and impressed us all with her textured wool landscapes. Here's a little more about her:
1) How long have you been creating art?
I've always enjoyed arts and crafts, but it wasn't until the first lockdown that I really got back into it. I started learning more about needlefelt and after initially trying a few kits and realising the versatility of working with wool, I fell in love with this medium.

2) Which artists have inspired you?
Many inspire me, but if you were to visit my house you would certainly find a lot of artwork by Ron Lawson and Cath Waters! I really like how both artists capture the rugged beauty of Scotland in their own ways.

3) What materials do you use?
Wool of course!! from many different breeds and in various forms. I really enjoy using Blue Face Leicester dyed curls especially for texture in the sky and foreground. I love the tactile nature of needle felting and use other materials and textiles to enhance the textural aspect. Tweeds, silks, beads and embroidery to name a few!

4) What would your dream job be?
I'm very lucky in that I'm able to do what I love at the moment. I also work as a knitwear linker putting together beautifully designed artisanal knitwear which I really enjoy. My other dream is to one day own a B&B in the Scottish Highlands!

5) What three things would you take on a desert island?
Definitely my husband, cat and my art supplies. Oh and some wine, if I'm allowed a fourth!!!

6) What's something people may not know about you?
I am obsessed with knitwear and jumpers and have amassed quite a collection. I wouldn't like to say how many I own!!! Needless to say I love the winter time!
You can find cushions designed by Fraoch Tones on our website for the rest of 2024. Take a look!
